Carifest - Calgary Caribbean Festival is loud and colourful
There are lots of festivals in Calgary and today it was the turn of Carifest. This is the annual festival celebrating everything Caribbean.
It started off with everyone gathering downtown. There were floats, DJ's, dancers and those of us just there to enjoy.
Of course the police were out to escort the parade through the city.
As the parade made its way along Stephen Ave / 8th Ave we saw some amazing sights. Each culture represented had a float with very load music playing and most had lots of dancers and some amazing costumes.
Many of the dancer had very skimpy costumes on, so thankfully the weather was brilliant, sunny, dry and very warm.
The parade then made its way across the city to Bell Millennium Park where there were vendors, food, music and just about everything else. Half a dozen bands are scheduled throughout the ay and this was thef irst one Power Houze Band. By now it was getting really hot and we only stayed for an hour or so, although in total we had been out for 5 hours, so not a bad day at all.
