Antique shops and cheesecake

Antique shops and cheesecake

Rain was forecast for today and looking at the mountains we could see it was another foggy day - we could not see the mountains at all. So, we decided the best thing to do was shop locally and see if the weather improved.

I had picked up a leaflet about an antique mall nearby so we drove there to take a look. It is called The Factory Antique Mall and is in Verona, just a few miles from Harrisonburg.
It is promoted as the largest factory antique mall in America and I can well believe it. It is huge, so huge that the aisles have street names.

It is basically lots of individual vendors selling their items. Some vendors are at their stalls and others are devoid of people. You basically can shop from anywhere and then purchase centrally. There are lots of antiques (or at least what Americans call antiques) as well as other more contemporary items. We spent about 1.5 hours here, so there is a lot to see. They also have restrooms and a cafe.

We then set off to another antique mall, this time, one called Rolling Hills Antique Mall. This is in Harrisonburg and on the downtown side of town.

This one is much smaller than the last but had some interesting stuff. More small stuff such as postcards, posters etc and less furniture. I took the photo below before I saw a sign which said no photos inside the store. But as I'd already taken it I may as well use it.

After we had finished here we went back into town to go to the bookstore for another hot chocolate and cheesecake session - just as delicious as the first time. We then wandered around the mall and did a bit of shopping, picking up a few items of clothing.

By late afternoon we were hoping to go back on the Skyline for one last drive, but it was still very cloudy and foggy and we did not want to have a repeat of the other night, so we decided to give it a miss.

We had our final Harrisonburg meal once again at the buffet and then went back to the hotel to pack and get ready for our long journey home tomorrow.
