Plattsburg NY, car museum and High Falls Gorge

Once again rain was forecast, so this time, we chose to drive to the nearby city of Plattsburg. I had found a mall and a car museum on Tripadvisor that got good reviews so we went to the mall first.

When we drove into the parking area it looked pretty big, but once we entered we found this not to be the case. It was only one level and wasn't even as big as our local mall, which in itself is not huge. Also, several of the stores were closed up.

I thought maybe we had gone to the wrong mall as it had such good reviews so I asked a staff member in one of the stores if there was another mall in the city and she said no, this was it. She looked quite apologetic telling me this as if she was embarrassed!

After this disappointment, we needed a snack so set the sat nav to a Dunkin Donuts which we found easily enough. There was only one person in front of us in the line but we ended up waiting about 15 minutes to be served at what is supposed to be a fast food place. The server apologised saying she was the only one serving even though there was clearly other staff in the place. Very poor service.

Next, we decided to go to the car museum, after all, things could only get better! We were greeted at the office entrance by an elderly lady who said the tour was already underway and we could join it and then go round again after to the point we started. It is located in a number of different buildings and we were taken to one of them. A gentleman was describing the cars in this area to about six people who we joined.

There were lots of cars from very old to quite modern. There were also lots of model cars and an area where there were some quite stunning dioramas. Overall.we enjoyed the museum and the guide was very knowledgeble.Definately worth a visit if you are in the area and like cars.

After this we went headed back to Saranac Lake and decided, as we had time, to stop off at High Falls Gorge where there is a walk and waterfalls to see.

We had a snack in the coffee shop there before we started then took the short and easy trail around the pathways and into the falls area. It is a very nice and we were surprised at how noisy the falls where. There was lots to see and it was a lovely way to spend an hour, especially as there were not many other people about.

After this, we drove back to Saranac Lake and stopped off at Pizza Hut to grab dinner. Then we went on the back roads again and this time saw 3 deer and a grouse.

Internet still crap at the hotel!
